James Lee Shannon, 58, unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack on Monday, March 30, 2020 in Webster, Texas. He was born to Jerry Lee and Elizabeth Louise Shannon on October 11, 1961 in Norman, Oklahoma and grew-up on dairy farms. James was the husband of Darlene Helms Shannon and father to their son John Lee Shannon of Bacliff, Texas.

He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Cherry Companies in Houston, Texas. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing dominoes, dancing and visiting with family and friends. He was a hard-working, loving and giving man who was very proud of his family. James loved spending time with his son drinking coffee, cooking and watching NASCAR races. He had memorized and liked watching “classic” western movies with John Wayne, Randolph Scott and Clint Eastwood. He will be greatly missed here on earth, but remembered by all who knew and loved him in a much greater way as he will always be in our hearts.

James was preceded in death by his parents Jerry Lee and Elizabeth Louise Shannon and his parent in-laws John Thomas and Melba Ruth Helms.

He is survived by his loving wife and son, his siblings Beverly and Jose Alejandro of Brandon, Texas, Sharon Davis of Gainesville, Texas, Sandra Kay Shannon of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Charles Shannon and Brenda of Okmulgee, Oklahoma. And his sister in-laws Denise and Ronnie Green of Garland, Texas and Donna and Terry Moran of Caddo Mills, Texas. He is also survived by 16 nieces and nephews and 24 great nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.

Unfortunately, during this very difficult time of the COVID-19 pandemic we have to do what is best for the health and safety of everyone. Small groups may visit at Corley Funeral Home, 418 N. 13th Street, in Corsicana, Texas on Monday, April 6th, between the hours of 1:00 pm and 8:00 pm and Tuesday, April 7th in the morning after 9:00 am. There will be a service for 10 immediate family members on Tuesday, April 7th, at 1:00 pm officiated by Chaplain C.J. Waller, Jr. at the Hamilton Beeman Cemetery, FM Road 2555, Retreat, Texas. Darlene and John Lee Shannon are requesting that family and friends gather after the COVID-19 pandemic has passed, hopefully this summer, for a graveside service where John Lee would like to speak followed with a time of fellowship.

An online guest book is available at and selecting the James Lee Shannon obituary.

I will miss James! I LOVED any time I got to spend with him. We hunted together many times, roofed my parents house, and I always made sure to spend some time with him whenever he and I were at the same family function. He was a good man! He will be missed. Love you all very much!!
