Syble Gelene Malone age 88 of Dresden passed away Sunday March 8, 2020 at Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Italy, Texas. She was born February 6, 1932 to James Grover Melton and Amanda Lou Steward Melton in Dresden. Syble was the twelfth child born to them of thirteen children.

Syble was reared in Dresden on two different farms; Aunt Jane Melton’s place and the “new farm”. She attended Blooming Grove Schools and married on August 28, 1948 at the end of her sophomore year to Victor Mills Malone of Frost. She attended church as a child at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church and Dresden United Methodist Church. In later years she attended Mertens Southern Baptist Church, Westside Baptist Church and Friendship Tower Church services. She loved to sing at church and started singing at Dresden United Methodist with her baby sister.

She was a talented seamstress. She loved to crochet and was a doll enthusiast. She collected china dolls and was known as the “Doll Lady of Corsicana”.

After her husband’s death in 1974 she completed her education and went to college. She worked for Community Services in Magnet and Childcare and later became the director of the Child Development Center until she retired.

She was a perfectionist in her cooking and handwork and her greatest loves were her Lord and Savior, her husband, her children, her family and friends. She was content with what she had but was always wanting more for her family and friends. She spent three of the last years of her life on Aunt Jane’s farm where most of the Melton children were born.

She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant in 1954, a daughter Vicki Gelene Hanna in 2004, her parents, six brothers; Ira Earl, Johnnie Dathan, Rubin Lee, Cecil Lamar, Grover Steward, and Carro Dean; six sisters; Lou Etta Ewing, Wanda Darlene Beckler, Lylan Morton, Dorothy Ethel Eaton, Addie Pearl Johnson, and Lorean McCulloch and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and other relatives.

Syble is survived by sons; Tim Malone (Julia) of Corsicana, David Malone of Frost, and grandchildren; Amanda Wofford (Brian), Kyle Malone, Jeremy Oliver, Laura Adams, Hope Hanna, and Krysta Nelson and two great-grandchildren Abigail Oliver and Kole Malone. She is also survived by sisters-in-law; Jerry Sue Malone, Kathern Ann Horton, Joyce Melton all of Corsicana and Jackie Lynn Anderson (Billy Ray) of Lorena, Texas. Numerous nephews and nieces and special friends; Becky Stubblefield, Nancy Dawson, Lisa Dillman, and Tammy Akhtar, and her faithful four-legged friends, Petey Joe and Emily Jane.

Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Corley Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 10:00AM at the Dresden First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tag Green and Rev. Neely Reynolds officiating. A private burial will follow at Dresden Cemetery with Percy Morton, Brent Melton, Dennis Melton, Mark Melton, Ronald Elmore, Lonnie Schronk, Larry Haden, and Matt Hollingsworth serving as pallbearers.

An online guestbook is available at and selecting the Syble Gelene Malone obituary.

I so much enjoyed taking care of Mrs. Malone. She was always so special to me I loved her with all my heart. Our bond was so special she was a mom to me. Treated me like a daughter and always told me that no one is gonna mess with my kids . I felt the love and it made me feel so great. I think of mom everyday and will continue too. Our bond grew more special everyday even the day that she found out my birthday was the same as the daughter that she lost. I was meant to take care of mom and we needed to be in each other's life. I felt so special when mom made a doll of me like the kids that she took care of when she worked. And the Xmas trees that we both did and decorated. I truly love and respected mom and miss her a lot. In my heart I know that mom is smiling down at us all . I enjoyed the singing that we both did even though I can't carry a tune . Mom is always in my heart. I love you.

David, i'm sorry for the loss of your wonderful sweet mother. The two of you had such a strong bond like no other I have seen . I feel very blessed to have had the chance to meet this outstanding woman. May you stay strong just as she would want you to do.

Mother you will be forever missed by your sons. My greatest hope is that your lord and saviour introduced you to the baby you lost for that was your second wish. I know that daddy, Vicki, the baby and all the rest of the family are rejoicing at your arrival. I know that you are whole again and more beautiful than ever before. Mother until we see you again we love you Tim and David

Syble was a wonderful example of strong and caring woman as well as a mother who truly loved her children. She took the straw of her life and wove it into a beautiful Easter bonnet. How fortunate to have had such a wonderful mother. She will be missed. Cheryl and Ric
