Helen grew up in Alliance Hall with four brothers. She had to be tough and fast to keep pace with them. She was raised by her father and two old maid sisters on a farm. She grew up picking cotton and doing farm chores. After completing eleven years of school in Alliance she graduated from Blooming Grove High School.
She never went anywhere that she didn’t stop and visit with another shopper. She had more energy than the “Ever Ready Bunny”. She loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Helen worked in the assembly line at Rockwell International for many years and spent time working at the Hat Factory after the family moved to Corsicana.
Helen was a wonderful cook and her fried chicken was a big hit with her family. They tried never to miss a day when Helen was frying up a batch of chicken.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 74 years, A. J. Widener; her granddaughter, Dara Crum and grandson, Chris Widener. Helen is survived by her children; Mickie L Crum and husband Ty of Barry and Jim Widener of Cisco, her grandchildren; Dana L. Howard of Pearl River, Louisiana, Jimmy Widener of Frisco, and Felisha Crum of Tyler. She leaves behind to cherish her memories nine great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
