As a young man he attended the 11th Avenue United Methodist Church (now St. Luke United Methodist Church) with his dear grandparents, whenever he could find a ride from Dallas to Corsicana to be with them. He loved spending time with his grandparents and cousins whenever possible.
After a brief forbidden summer romance in 1952 when Alice was just 13 and Raymond was 17 he joined the United States Coast Guard. Due to the distance, their relationship faded and life happened. They went their separate ways until they reconnected and were married on December 21, 2006.
While serving in the Coast Guard he was stationed in California, Connecticut, New Jersey and Kentucky. He worked on Light House Stations and Light Ships, retiring with the rank of Chief. After retiring from the Coast Guard, he joined the Dallas Police Department as patrolman and also served as a member of the Mounted Horse Patrol serving as security at the parks of Dallas, especially White Rock Lake, Kiest Boulevard area and the State Fair yearly. After working for 22 years with the Dallas Police Department he retired and worked for the Waxahachie Sheriff's Department as a bailiff for 6 years.
Raymond was a real cowboy and he loved all things western: the clothes, guns, hats, boots, pictures, decor, guitars, other musical instruments, music, movies, magazines, books and he was even a writer of Western short stories. He was a bull rider and he owned horses and rode in rodeos.
