Obituary

Raymond O. Davidson. Jr. 84 of Corsicana passed away Friday, May 24th, 2019 at his home. He was born August 5, 1934 at Mount Calm, TX to Raymond Davidson, Sr. and Mary Grissom Davidson. He has lived in Corsicana since December 2006 and was an active member of St. Luke Methodist Church. Before moving to Corsicana, he had lived in Ennis for 20 years.
As a young man he attended the 11th Avenue United Methodist Church (now St. Luke United Methodist Church) with his dear grandparents, whenever he could find a ride from Dallas to Corsicana to be with them. He loved spending time with his grandparents and cousins whenever possible.
After a brief forbidden summer romance in 1952 when Alice was just 13 and Raymond was 17 he joined the United States Coast Guard. Due to the distance, their relationship faded and life happened. They went their separate ways until they reconnected and were married on December 21, 2006.
While serving in the Coast Guard he was stationed in California, Connecticut, New Jersey and Kentucky. He worked on Light House Stations and Light Ships, retiring with the rank of Chief. After retiring from the Coast Guard, he joined the Dallas Police Department as patrolman and also served as a member of the Mounted Horse Patrol serving as security at the parks of Dallas, especially White Rock Lake, Kiest Boulevard area and the State Fair yearly. After working for 22 years with the Dallas Police Department he retired and worked for the Waxahachie Sheriff's Department as a bailiff for 6 years.
Raymond was a real cowboy and he loved all things western: the clothes, guns, hats, boots, pictures, decor, guitars, other musical instruments, music, movies, magazines, books and he was even a writer of Western short stories. He was a bull rider and he owned horses and rode in rodeos.
Mr. Davidson was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister Sharron Thompson, brother Jackie Davidson, his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Fred Davidson and cousin Britt Vanderford.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Faye Hayes Davidson, of Corsicana, children; Raymond Odell Davidson III and wife Kathy of Richardson, Robert Laurence Davidson of Mesquite, Tamara Ann Davidson of Dallas, his step-children Jerry Davis and wife Margaret of Retreat, Sherrie and Mike Wendt of Corsicana, Terri Bailes of Corsicana his grandchildren, Brian Davidson of Dallas, Paul Davidson and wife Magli of Colorado and Taylor Davidson and wife Erainna of Grapevine, Rachel Davidson of Garland; his sister-in-law, Estelle Davidson of South Padre Island, his cousins; Bobby D. Davidson and Margie Talkington; his nephew Michael Thompson and wife Margaret of Stoughton, Ma. In addition to the grand children listed there are 45 plus step-grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be from 9:30 – 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Corley Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow immediately at 11:00 A.M. at Corley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Barnett officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Jackie Davidson, Chopper Davidson, Taylor Davidson, Davis Bailes, Jerry Davis and Hector Cabrera. Honorary pallbearers will be the United Methodist Men of St. Luke United Methodist Church and Mike Wendt. Burial will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery in Retreat.
Memorials may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, general fund at 2308 N. Bowie Drive, Corsicana, TX. 75110.
