Husband, father, veteran, and artist left us this week to be with our Heavenly Father. Amos Monroe Bennett was the third of his namesake in a long legacy of wonderful men. He moved from Missouri to Orange, Texas with his family in the 1940’s. At the age of 18, he joined the Army and was stationed at Bon Folder, Germany. Returning to the United States as a disabled veteran in 1958, he was stationed at Fort Hood in Texas. On a chance meeting, in April 1959, their legacy began, meeting Deena Pierce at a small diner “Papa Coles, McGregor Texas”. They married on January 20, 1960. Completing his military service through civil service from 1964 to 1979, he retired and became a “jack of all trades”. Amos had a love for woodworking and has created many masterpieces which will be displayed at his Irish Wake that will be held on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at 1:00pm at his residence (652 SW CR 1000, Corsicana, TX 75110). He was Preceded in death by his Father, Baxter Bennett and Mother, Alta Reba Dean; sisters, Virginia Birch and Kayron Johnson. Brother, William Baxter Bennett. Survived by his wife, Deena Bennett and brother Albert Dean Bennett. His legacy continues with 2 Daughters Dorena A. Boyd and husband Dean of Friendswood, Texas and Sherra E. McGaha and husband Ronny of Corsicana, Texas, six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren: Tiffany Castillo married to Dan, children; Ethan Bennett, Aaron Bennett, and Logan Castillo; Jennifer Hill married to Jacob, children Jaycie, Jackson, Jayleigh; Amanda Callaway married to Chris, child; Maggie; Steffany Bowling married to Josh, children; Josh Jr, Brett, and Baxter; Rebekah Sanchez married to Franky, children; Landen, Tyler, and Catherine; and grandchild; Ryan McGaha. Family would prefer donations in-leu of flowers be sent to a Disabled Veteran’s or M.D.Anderson Cancer Hospital. An online guestbook is available at and selecting the Amos Monroe Bennett obituary.
