Shirley Ann Ashley, 75, of Chatfield, Texas passed away February 27, 2019 from a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Shirley was born on January 31, 1944 in Oplin, Texas to Ivel and Mae Ashley.

Shirley earned her BSN degree and worked as a nurse at Ennis Regional Medical Center for over 40 yrs. before retiring. Shirley loved to travel, crochet in her early years, attend blue grass and gospel events, but most of all loved her family and friends. Shirley was an amazing person and loved by all who knew her. She was a strong smart woman who loved life. She brought light to darkness, happiness to sadness and strength to weakness. She was the glue that held her family together and will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivel and Mae Ashley; brothers, Don, Carl and Pete Ashley; sisters, Margie Taylor, Ruthie Ashley and Sue Ashley.

Shirley is survived by her brother Joe Ashley, sister Wanda Rice, sisters-in-law Pat Ashley and Mary Ashley and many nieces and nephews she helped raise.

Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Corley Funeral Home. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at New Chatfield Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Diggs officiating.

None of you will know me, my maiden name was Voncille Bodine, my grandma Molly Bodine and Shirley’s grandfather Hayden Ellison were brother and sister! I knew Shirley in the hospital after the tornado! My family and I visited a few times! My dad, Roy Bodine and her mom, Mae were first cousins. It sounds like she was an amazing woman! My love to all of you! Voncille Bodine Wellborn, 6816 Zane Pl. Amarillo, Tx 79119

Aunt Shirley was truly an angel on this earth. She was the most kindest, giving woman I have ever known. She loved her family and her profession as a nurse. Shirl helped raise my best friend who has beome an amazing woman (even if she did spoil her just a little bit). Shirley was respected and loved by all. I had the privilege of having her in my life growing up and as a mentor when I became a nurse. Every live she touched was blessed and I am so grateful for knowing her. The world has lost an extraordinary woman but she has left a legacy that will go on forever. You will be sorely missed Aunt Shirley, I love you.

Oh my goodness, what an absolutely great woman Aunt Shirley was. She always wanted for everyone to be happy even if it meant her doing without. Growing up she was the Aunt that all us kids pretty much got what we wanted and she was so fun, always happy. I'm so glad she got to hold my grandbaby, her Great Great niece before she had to go to Heaven where she has no more pains and was reunited with her precious family that was waiting there for her. Aunt Shirley I will never forget all the wonderful things you did for me and most of all how much you loved us, your sweet laugh and your adorable little smile. I'll miss you but I'll see you again when it's my time to leave this world, you'll always be alive here in my heart!! Oh, and please give everyone a big huge hug from me and Mama and the kids, until we meet again!

My heart is saddened to hear of Shirleys passing. I know I have been blessed to know her and to work with her for many years. She was a wonderful person and so devoted to her family. Throw in the great nurse and great sense of humor and you must have a pretty good all around person. I'll miss and fondly remember her. Rest now Shirley, you have certainly earned it. Love, Mary Jo Moore
