Mrs. Verna Mae Ainsworth Keathley was born May 8, 1916 in Lytle, Bexar County, Texas to Franklin Berry Ainsworth and Sarah Amanda Barlow Ainsworth. Her family later moved to Henderson County and finally to Navarro County where she has been a resident since 1922. Verna Mae graduated from Barry High School in May 1934.
Verna Mae married Malvin Findley Keathley, of the Pinkston/Barry Community, on November 4, 1934. They were members of the Barry Church until they moved to the Eleventh Avenue Methodist Church in Corsicana in 1937. In 1974, this church family became St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, moving to the current location on North Bowie Drive. With this transition Malvin and Verna Mae had the opportunity to become involved with the United Methodist Women and the Men’s Club.
In 1948, Malvin and Verna Mae adopted their daughter, Rebecca, with assistance from the United Methodist Church and the Texas Mission Home and Training School in San Antonio, Texas. Verna Mae always loved children and enjoyed serving people, which led to 42 years working in retail sales as well as baby-sitting all across town.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 sisters and 5 brothers, her husband and her daughter.
She is survived by her grandchildren; Jessica McManus Paul and husband, Alon, Bruce Findley McManus and Crystal Criddle, Jennifer McManus Robinson and Steve Allen and son-in-law, Alvin “Wayne” Price. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren; Jennifer, Chase, Pam, Meranda and Brett as well as numerous great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5p-7p on Friday 12/14/18 at Corley Funeral Home with graveside services at 2p Saturday 12/15/18 at Resthaven Memorial Park, Corsicana, Texas. Pastor Robert Barnett of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to United Methodist Women, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church of Corsicana.

“May the Peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, ...guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." __Philippians 4:7 Remembering a special lady… Ailsa Flynn Anderson

Although I have never had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Keathley, I want to express my deepest condolences for your loss. May your family draw comfort from God’s promise at Psalms 37:29, “The righteous will possess the earth. And they will live forever on it." This promise assures us that death is a temporary condition, likened to sleep at John 11:11. Soon those asleep in death will be resurrected back to life to live on a paradise earth where death will be done away with forever...Revelation 21:4. This is the comforting hope our Heavenly Father holds out to us. May it bring your family comfort and peace during this most difficult time.

I just said my last good bye to you. And it seems unreal. You were my girl, my Nanny, My best friend. You were the one person, I never questioned whether you loved me or not. You showed it, easily. you told me with and without words how special I was to you. You radiated nothing but natural, classy, absolute beauty, and pure love. You were and will always be the most beautiful soul I've ever had the honor of loving. I am more than honored that you loved me so dearly. I love you just as dearly, My sweet Nanny. I will love you beyond this life. I am eternally blessed for you having been a part of mine. And I pray I may be redeemed enough by God's grace to hold you and tell you I love you again. There's a special place in heaven for you and Grandaddy. I know you're eternally with the love of your life, as he is with his. That dear, sweet, wonderful man has been missing you a very long time. I can't imagine a more joyous reunion. We miss you. We will all always miss you. Forever. You are dearly missed, and dearly loved by us all. But, It's not really goodbye. It's, I'll see you later. I love you always ❤️ I can still hear your sweet loving, comforting voice. I miss it so. I'll always be a better human being for having you in my life, and your unconditional love. Thank you for never judging me. And always loving me. Bask in the peace you're now in. You earned it. You deserve it. ❤️

What a delightful woman. I had the privledge to meet Verna while delivering Food For Fitness. We became friends immediately. She and I had a connection. She and her husband used to double date with my in-laws. She would tell me stories about riding into Corsicana on their wagon drawn by horses to hog to the PalaceTheater. She always made me laugh. I will miss this beautiful woman.
