Obituary for Charles Duane Harris

Print
Charles D. Harris, 88, of Frost, TX passed away Saturday, November 17, 2018 in Midlothian, TX. He was born on March 5, 1930, to William Paul Harris and Bessie Marie (Coddington) Harris in Economy, Indiana. He grew up in Indiana, until he joined the United States Air Force and served for three years during the Korean Conflict in the Pacific.
After he was honorably discharged, Charles attended college as Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky, where he graduated with an Associate’s Degree, and he married Mary Elizabeth Miller. Charles became the Executive Director of United Way Agencies and MHMR, allowing him to work in Texarkana, Mount Pleasant, and Dallas.
In 1986, Charles married Callie Sue McClure, and they spent 32 loving years together. He was a wonderful husband who always practiced the utmost form of chivalry. He passed on to his sons what it means to be a true gentleman: holding doors, coming to the dinner table with a tucked in shirt, amongst other redeeming qualities. Charles grew up in the Church of the Nazarene, but has been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Frost for the past 15 years.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Callie Harris; son, Greg Harris and wife Beverly; son, Guy Harris and wife Debbie; daughter, Kathy Barron and husband Troy; daughter, Karla Wright and husband Ron; 8 grandchildren: Lendea Venegas, Hudson Harris, Blake Harris, Bryan Harris, Tracy Gutierrez, Nicole Jackson, James Fischer, and Jessica Holt, as well as 10 great grandchildren.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, William and Bessie Harris, and brothers, Eugene and Thurl Harris.
Pallbearers are Rolando Gutierrez, Derrick Jackson, James Fischer, Paxton Holt, Blake Harris, and Hudson Harris.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 from 10 AM until 11 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Frost: 121 E. North Front Street. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 11 AM, with Rev. Kevin Diggs and Pastor Leah Hitte-Gregory officiating. His granddaughter, Lendea Venegas will also be singing. Interment will follow at Frost Cemetery.
