Obituary for Freddie Eli Grant

Freddie Eli Grant, age 76, passed away Sunday, August 5, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at his home overlooking Richland Chambers Reservoir. He was born on February 27, 1942 to Fred Eddy Grant and Mildred Grant (Franklin) in Ranger, Texas.

Freddie was a hardworking and driven man that never quit working throughout the entirety of his life. He had a love for cars, rebuilding several with his beloved son River, as well as being a professional welder. His main passion in life, however, was fishing. Freddie owned a boat dealership in Fort Worth, Texas, and was a Professional Fishing Guide on Lake Texoma, Richland Chambers Reservoir, Lake Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend where he specialized in helping others to catch Stripers, as well as Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass. He was the creator of the T.V. Series “Fun of Fishing with Freddie Grant” which aired from 1977 to 1993 on KTVT Channel 11 Dallas-FT Worth Texas, and various other cable markets. In his time on the show as a Professional Tournament Angler he traveled the world going from regional lakes across the United States to Mexico, South America, and even up to Alaska, where he used his aviation license to fly his camera crew from his production company to all of the destinations himself. He became a pioneer of outdoor shows, paving the way for many of the Television productions aired today. Freddie was also a very talented musician writing a variety of music from Blues, to Classical, to Country and even writing the theme song to his own show.

He was a wonderful man who lived a life full of adventure. He was loved by many and will be missed tremendously by all of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Freddie is survived by his son River Grant (Fort Worth, TX); daughter Charmain Elrod (Olney, TX) and husband Roger. He is also survived by his grandchildren Corey and wife Taylor;. James and wife Sarah. He is survived by his great grandchildren Emma and Riley Elrod as well as Zane and Clayton Thompson. He is also survived by his sister Deborah Tallant (North Richland Hills, TX) and husband Everett “Buz”. Freddie also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

There will be a cremation at the direction of Corley Funeral Home, with memorial services pending at this time.
