Obituary for LaVerne Myers (Thomas)

LaVerne Myers (Thomas)
Hazel LaVerne Myers, 88 of Corsicana, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 12, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. LaVerne was born on October 30, 1929 in Dallas to Merle and Lorena (Baird) Thomas and grew up in Tyler and Longview, but she spent most of her life in Corsicana, Texas.
She married Calvin Myers on January 9, 1953 and moved to Corsicana in 1957 where she worked as a secretary for Collin Street Bakery and Navarro County Memorial Hospital before becoming a private secretary for the owner of Oil City Iron Works.
Over the years, Calvin & LaVerne and their children were members of 1st Methodist Church of Kerens, and 11th Ave. Methodist Church, Wesley Methodist Church, and 1st United Methodist Church in Corsicana. LaVerne always sang in the choir and still on many recent occasions, could be heard humming a tune or singing the words of an old hymn she loved. She served for several years as President of the United Methodist Women and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
She was very involved in the lives of her children, serving as school PTA President, volunteering in the Tiger Football Concession Stand as a Band Booster, and serving as Den Mother when her sons entered scouting.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Calvin Myers and her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Violet Myers Dickson and husband John of Denton; son, Bradley Myers and wife Zoey of Harrisville, WV; son, Kelly R. Myers and wife Carol of Star Harbor; son, Steve Myers and wife Susan of Lubbock; brother, Teddy Thomas of Dallas; Grandsons, Mike Dickson, Matt Dickson, Sam Dickson, Jonathan Dickson, Elliot Myers and Clay Kennedy; Granddaughters, Haley Myers, Cori Harkins, Stephanie Myers, and Rachel Hall; eleven Great-Grandchildren, Garret, Michaela, Brennen, Liam, Violet, Olivia, Reagan, Riley, Jordan, Colin and Madeline, with Amelia on the way.
Visitation with the family will be at Corley Funeral Home on Friday, June 15, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel with John Dickson officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Corsicana. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made in her memory to the First United Methodist Church, 320 N. 15th St, Corsicana.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to care givers at Senior Care in Denton, as well as nurses, doctors and medical staff at Baylor Hospital and Faith Hospice in Dallas, Texas.
