Obituary for Donald Perry

Donald Perry
Don Perry’s struggle with Alzheimer’s ended on the 23d day of September 2018 in Corsicana, Texas.
Don Perry was born on the 18th day of August 1936 in Dallas, Texas to Alene Stubblefield Perry and Aca O. Perry. Don was preceded in death by his beloved parents, beloved son, Don Perry Jr., and beloved wife of 51 years, Nella Arnett Perry.
Don is survived by his only sibling, sister, Betty Jean Perry Herring of Brownwood; son, Glen Allen Fuller of Dawson; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Kay and Dennis (Mike) Redden of Corsicana; grandchildren: Lynn, Elizabeth, Jessica, Kim, Troy, Kaycee and Dustie; great-grandchildren: Ashley, Josh, Shawna, Kylie, Jesse, Jordan, Joseph and Krystyn; nieces and nephews; sister-in-laws, Louise Arnett and Hattie Lee Barnett of Corsicana; former daughter-in-law, Kathy, and son-in-law, Alan; friends from the old days and friends from recent days, he loved them all!
Don spent his childhood in the small town of Powderly in Northeast Texas. As a child, Don attended the Church of Christ with his parents. Don later moved with his family to Dallas, Texas.
Don joined the United States Army on the 26th day of October 1954, and served three years active duty. Don was Honorably Discharged from the United States Armed Forces on the 7th day of October 1957.
In 1980, Don retired from Sears &Roebuck, after 23 years of dedicated service. In Don’s early years with Sears, he drove a service truck all over the greater Dallas area as a repair man for the many household appliances and other mechanical items sold by Sears. Later, Don became the Service Department Manager; a time when customer satisfaction was a priority as he said many times: “The customer is always right.”
While employed by Sears, Don met the love of his life, his late wife, Nella Arnett Perry, and they married on June 25, 1966. They raised a family while living in Dallas, then moved out to the country in Ovilla, Texas. Don and his late wife made their final move to Barry, Texas in 1980. Don retired after many years of Industrial Management at the Old Memorial Hospital, Corsicana Packing House and Navarro Pecan.
Don was a very meek man with few words, though, one who was always willing to lend a helping hand and give you the shirt off his back. Don enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, fishing, and cook-outs. Don had very fond memories of the good old days spent at Navarro Mills Lake as well as the days driving his team of mules on trail rides.
Don didn’t speak much about his faith or religion, although, said he has accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and was baptized as a young man at the Church of Christ in Dallas, Texas.
Don’s family will receive friends and loved ones during a visitation at Corley Funeral Home on Friday, October 5, 2018 from 6 PM until 8 PM.
