He is also survived by his brothers, Joe, Bobby and Mike Atkeisson along with numerous nieces and nephews.
At the age of 15 years old, Billy Don went to work for his Uncle repairing car radios and TVs. He later purchased Atkeisson TV Repair on S. Beaton and for 42 years grew a business that was more than just a TV repair shop. It was the central hub for shenanigans on Beaton Street for many of the down town business owners. He had a giving heart and gave away many TVs through the years to those in need.
Billy Don was an avid golfer and loved just being on the golf course. He was well known for his gift as a great putter. Playing the game of golf, he touched many lives. From playing in tournaments with friends, to teaching the younger generation to play, Billy Don spread a love for the sport.
He and his cousin, Gerald Atkeisson, enjoyed football and ran the score board and clock for Corsicana Jr. High football games for 22 years.
Billy Don loved history. Family trips were planned around historical sights of interest to sneak in the occasional history lesson. Travel was a big part of his love for life. He and Betty traveled to many destinations making memories along the way.
He loved playing jokes on customers, friends and his kids. He had many great memories from lunch at Bills or Humberts every day with “the boys”, James Owen, Gene Bullard, Don Harvey, Richard Stubbs, David Hale and various friends. Billy Don had a special way with people and never met a stranger. He cherished his family most of all.
Billy Don loved life and lived it to its fullest. He will be greatly missed by many.
Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 to 6:00 on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Corley Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be at Northside Baptist Church on Monday, October 1st at 10:00am. This is a time to remember Billy Don with the special memories he left us. As per his wishes, dress attire for the celebration is “Golf Course Casual”. We invite all family and friends to spend this time with us honoring a very special man.
