Maudene Blackburn (Brooks)
Maudene Brooks Blackburn passed to heaven on March 27, 2018 in Houston. She was born on July 18, 1937 to Andrew and Myrtle Brooks of Purdon, Navarro County, Texas. She was one of eleven children and a twin to her sister Adene. She worked in the cotton fields with her brothers and sisters but was able to complete her education and graduate from Purdon High School in 1956. She met her husband, Homer Blackburn, while working the Corsicana Greyhound Bus Station and within three months they were married and remained married for 48 years until Homer’s death. She live with her husband and son in north Houston for over 30 years and retired with her husband to Spicewood, TX on Lake Travis. She return to Houston after the death of her husband living in the Conroe area.
She loved gardening and had a special fondness for roses. She was also a great country music fan and loved to travel. In her travels she visited almost all 50 states, parts of Canada, Great Britain and Greece. She made many friends along the way.
She is survived by her son, Larry W. Blackburn and his wife, Diane E. Blackburn; one brother Charles and his wife Linda Brooks; two sisters, Adene Cumbie and Bonnie Price and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be on Friday, March 30, 2018 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Corley Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel with the Dr. Rick Lamb officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton Beeman Cemetery.
