Mr. James T. Donald, 88, of Corsicana passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Navarro Regional Hospital in Corsicana. He was born on June 7, 1929 in Waynesboro, Mississippi to Rev. Thomas F. and Gladys L. Donald.
He attended and graduated high school in Sulphur, Louisiana, and then attended McNeese College in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He married Leota Simmons in 1950 and entered the United States Air Force in 1951 and retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1974. During the 21 years and 10 months in the Air Force he flew as a crew member (Gunner/Boomer Operator) on B-29’s, B-36’s, KB-29”s, KB-50’s, and KC-135’s. He flew over 5000 hours and had 143 combat missions in Korea and Vietnam. He received the Air medal with 2 oak leaf clusters along with other decorations. He discontinued flying due to hearing loss in the late 1960’s. He went to school and became a Navigation/Radar Technician, and later went to work at LSU Medical center in Shreveport as an environmental control technician. After he retired from there in 1979 he moved to Corsicana where his parents lived, and married Jane Burleson. She and his parents preceded him in death, and he later married Audra M. Parrish.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Qieida Hodge.
He is survived by his wife, Audra M. Donald of Corsicana; step-sons, Randy Carver and wife Joy of Corsicana and Ricky Carver of Corsicana; daughter-in-law, Rita Carver of Aubrey; granddaughter, Emily Robinson of Richardson; grandsons, John Carver of Aubrey and Chase Carver of Corsicana; great grandsons, Skylar Robinson of Richardson and Camden Carver of Corsicana; sister, Dean Atkeisson of Abilene; and his beloved furry friends, Sam and Sport.
Visitation with the family will be held from 12:00 noon – 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Corley Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at the Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery with the Rev. Tony Neal officiating.
