Obituary for Ellen Adair
Ellen Jeanne Willard Adair, 85 of Corsicana, was called to be with her family in heaven on July 28, 2017. Visitation will be held at Corley Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Celebration of Life Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Corsicana First United Methodist Church, Corsicana with Reverend Nancy Schusler officiating.
Ellen Jeanne was born June 19, 1932 in the family home in Corsicana. She was the fifth child of the late J.G. and Clara Fuller Willard.
She attended Corsicana schools graduating from Corsicana High School in 1949. She attended Navarro College, The University of Texas, Austin, received an Associate degree in Business Administration from Weatherford College, and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Southwest Texas State University, San Marcos. She was elected a member of Pi Alpha Alpha, National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration, Southwest Texas State University Chapter.
She worked for the Federal Civil Service in data processing and administration, retiring after thirty-one years in January 1993 from Moody Air Force Base, Georgia where she was Chief, Personnel Systems Manager-Civilian.
Ellen Jeanne was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Corsicana and served on the Administrative Board as Recording Secretary, Older Adults Coordinator, Altar Guild, Focus on Member writer, delegate to the Central Texas Annual Conference and a Certified Lay Speaker. She was a member of the United Methodist Women (UMW) and served on the Executive Committee as Secretary of Program Resources, Vice-President and Secretary. She also served Circle Two as Secretary and Leader. She was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class and served as Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer. She was a volunteer for Hospice of Mercy and was Hospice of Mercy Navarro County Volunteer of the Year, 1996.
She was a member of the James Blair Chapter, DAR and served as Treasurer for several terms.
Ellen Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Gordon, Gradon and Nevin Willard, her sister Margaret Hensley and her son Dr. Roger Willard Adair. She is survived by her daughters Margaret Morris of Cartersville GA and Jackie-Jo and husband Mark Cunningham of Glen Rose; grandchildren Dr. Kevin Cunningham and his wife Jennifer Cunningham of Eastland, Jaime-Jo Cunningham of Edwards, Colorado, Joshua and his wife Nancy Morris of Exeter, New Hampshire, Morgan and his wife Megan Morris of Rome, Georgia, Scott and his wife Courtney Morris, Alexandria, Kentucky; great-grandchildren Addy Cunningham, Ana Cunningham, Brody Morris, Gradon Morris, Lilley Morris, Grayson Morris and a great grandson due in September; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites those wishing to make a memorial donation to send their contributions to the First United Methodist Church, Corsicana or the charity of their choice.
